Flamini has blossomed into one of the most effective midfielders in the Premier League this season but will be out of contract in the summer. There has been speculation linking the Frenchman with a move away from Emirates Stadium, and some reports have claimed that he was stalling on a new deal because of interest from Juve. However, the Serie A club's sporting director Alessio Secco has told Arsenal they are not lining up a move for Flamini. "There is nothing true. He's a really good player, but we have never looked at him," Secco told the Juventus Channel. "Our chief officer has contacted the Gunners to reassure them. "It's a gesture that was needed considering the good relationship there must be between two big clubs like Juve and Arsenal, and that has been appreciated."
"We will not rush Robin van Persie back but the news is quite good," said Wenger. "It is very difficult to say [when he will be back in the side]. We go step by step. But he should come back into normal training, very, very quickly now.
"Maybe I am being a little over-cautious in my statements but I do not want to put any special pressure on him.
"But the fact that Eduardo is out is one more reason to [get him back]. Also he deserves that championship as well and that is another reason - to do it for him."
For the game at St Andrews, Arsenal's absentees list read: Alex Song (knee), Tomas Rosicky (hamstring), Abou Diaby (calf), Kolo Toure (knee) Johan Djourou (groin), Van Persie (thigh) and Emmanuel Eboue (suspended).
"It looks like you can take Diaby out of that list," replied Wenger when the roll-call was read out. "All of the other players are not back."
However both Ivorians may be back for Tuesday's trip to Milan.
"Eboue will be back from suspension then," said the Frenchman. "We don't know about Kolo. It looks a little bit early but you never know."

Robin van Persie is in contention to play a part in Arsenal's Champions League second-leg tie against AC Milan next week.
The Dutch striker, who has played just three games in five months because of a combination of injuries, returns to first-team training tomorrow and has been pencilled in to start the League match away to Wigan on Sunday week.
But if he responds well to training, there is an outside chance he could make the bench for Saturday's home game against Aston Villa and Tuesday's Champions League showdown in Milan, which is delicately poised at 0-0 after the first leg.
Though the match at the San Siro is likely to be too early for the 24-year-old to start, Van Persie is hopeful of at least featuring in Arsenal's 18-man squad.
Arsene Wenger has promised not to rush Van Persie's comeback after a series of setbacks in his recovery from injury. The Dutchman initially injured his knee on international duty last October, but then succumbed to a muscular injury before sustaining a thigh strain.
The horrific broken leg suffered by fellow striker Eduardo means Van Persie is in line for an earlier-than-expected recall, but Theo Walcott is also ready to fill the striking void left by the Croatian.

"Everything went wrong," said the 20-year-old. "We need to recover quickly and start coming out on top again. We can't keep thinking about this day because it has just been terrible.
"We were thinking about everything in the dressing room afterward. There were a lot of disappointments. We had a draw when we have to win and of course what happened to Edu is worse. It's just not the best of days."
Bendtner is in a unique position to assess Saturday's incident having played with Eduardo for Arsenal this year and with Martin Taylor while on loan at Birmingham last season. He was adamant there was no malice in the challenge.
"He's not a player like that," said the Dane. "He's really calm. He's not one who goes in to hurt people, never. But in football things like this happen.
"But, even though he is not one who does bad tackles, it was a bad tackle and he deserved to be sent off," he concluded. "The referee had no choice."
A statement on the club's official website said: "The club can confirm that following the incident during Saturday's match at Birmingham City, Eduardo has fractured his left fibula and sustained an open dislocation of his ankle joint in the same leg. "He was immediately taken to Selly Oak Hospital in Birmingham where he underwent surgery on Saturday evening. The operation was successful and Eduardo was transferred to a London-based hospital on Sunday afternoon. "Earlier today (Monday, 25th February), the orthopaedic surgeon and Arsenal medical staff assessed the extent of the damage and possible time-scale for a full recovery. "All being well, Eduardo will have his leg in plaster and using crutches for the next six to eight weeks. After that time, partial weight-bearing exercises will be scheduled into a slow rehabilitation process. "It is hoped that Eduardo will be running again in six months' time and making a full recovery after nine months."
However, Kaka - who will miss Milan's domestic meeting with Catania on Wednesday - has admitted his injury is worse than he first feared and that he faces a race against time to be fit in time to face the Gunners. "It hurts a lot," Kaka told "I hope to be fit for the Champions League match with Arsenal. I definitely won't be there against Catania."
The Brazilian playmaker has suffered a recurrence of the troublesome knee injury which saw him spend a recent spell on the sidelines.

“I don't remember the incident very well and it is not something that I want to see again on television or in the newspapers," said Eduardo.
"All I remember is that when I fell, I looked down at my foot and it had turned the other way. The rest is just a blank. It was an unfortunate situation but these things can happen in football.
“I am unsure at the moment of the extent of the injury and how long I will be out of action for but I know that I won't be able to play for Arsenal for the rest of the season or be ready in time for the Euros this summer.
"But I'm not worried about that. My concentration and determination is on making as quick a recovery as possible. I am determined to overcome this injury.
“I would like to thank the medical team here at Arsenal for their efforts as well as the staff at Selly Oak Hospital who carried out the operation on Saturday night. Everyone there made me feel as comfortable as possible.

"Of course, it is not impossible," said Hleb. "In football you never know what will happen. "We want to win and go through to the next round. Everybody was angry afterwards because we had a lot of chances. "We played well, but we need to score. I think we can do this in Milan. "We are confident. We have two games before Milan in the Premier League, and we need to win these games and afterwards go to Milan with good motivation."
"Definitely we can go there and do it," he said. "We are a positive side, we are young but, having seen what we have seen tonight, we can cope with their pace, their experience and we can create chances.
"If we can score a goal I think we have a good opportunity to go through. It's very difficult. They have a lot of experience, they know how to play. They defend very well, they are very intelligent and they never play around. If they have to kick it out, they will. It's very difficult but we have to be happy with the way we played tonight.
"We were maybe a little bit [nervous in the final third] but I think overall we played a very good game against a good team.
"We can't forget that we didn't play against an average team. We played against a top side like Milan and even then we played well. We had more opportunities, we played better and had more possession. We did everything right. Unfortunately sometimes in football the difference is you don't put the ball into the back of the net and we didn't do that."

"Adebayor is different to play against because he is very tall but also very fast," said Maldini at his pre-match press conference.
"Compared to 15 years ago it is easier to find players like this — very tall and also very skilful. He has found himself in a team that plays very good football to help him.
"This Arsenal team are full of young players and have lots of enthusiasm. They are playing a great championship at the moment.
"I think it is more difficult facing them this year than in the previous years because they play a different way and they play the ball quickly and have an outlet in their striker Adebayor. They don’t usually use a long ball.
"It will be a difficult match of course. They are top of the Premier League and we are here as champions of Europe, which makes me feel optimistic. Our tradition and history makes me feel confident."

"Yeah, it's difficult and surprising," said the Arsenal manager when asked to recall the mauling at Manchester United. "But, overall, if you look at the games we lost this season: at Sevilla, we had already qualified; at Tottenham we were half-here, half-there, and at Man. United too. But I feel as well that Man United gave a top-class performance on Saturday and we were swept away. It can happen.
"Last year I feel the game against Chelsea in the Carling Cup Final created a big upset because we lost straight away three days later in the FA Cup," he said. "But we were without some players then.
"And last year we were in a much worse position in the Premier League, so we had to say 'listen, let's save what can be saved.'
"This year is completely different because we are attracted by two fantastic competitions. We are in a very good position."
"The way in which Arsenal move the ball around on the floor is extraordinary," Pirlo gushed. "They are both fast and effective.
"I talk a lot about Dutch football with Clarence Seedorf and although I wasn't born when Holland played 'Total Football', I can see that whatever Arsenal team is trained by Arsene Wenger, they have always played beautiful and effective football, very skilful ball retention, especially on the ground, and they always have great movement to fill empty spaces - it is a kind of total football perhaps.
"We'll have to be smart enough, and good enough to prevent it killing us. Arsenal and AC Milan are very special teams, this season."
Pirlo, who will be looking to pull the strings from the heart of Milan's midfield tonight, picked out his direct counterpart for special praise.
"Cesc Fabregas is very strong, technically gifted, with a strong personality, he has a bit of everything - and he is scoring a lot this season too. Even though Fabregas is young he is already one of the strongest players in the world.
"He can only improve too - which is scary."

"We are underdogs, by a little bit," said the Arsenal manager. "They have the experience and won it last year. We are an upcoming team, so it is a big challenge against the holders of the trophy.
"For me we have the toughest draw of the English teams. And this game will define whether or not we can win the Champions League.
"On the other hand two years ago we played Real Madrid and went through. Last year we played Eindhoven but went out. It's very difficult to predict what's going to happen.
"The only thing we do know is that, if you don't play at your best against Milan, you're out."

Wenger's reaction here.
Arsenal captain William Gallas has launched a scathing attack on Sir Alex Ferguson's Manchester United, labelling them 'too arrogant'.
And Gallas is sure that The Gunners, who currently hold a five-point advantage over The Red Devils at the summit of the Premier League table, can take advantage of their complacency and be crowned champions this season.
"They are a strong team with lots of experienced players. But, sometimes, they think they're too good. Too arrogant, yes," he told GQ magazine
"It can make you complacent. We understand that problem. We know we have to score goals, be strong in defence and kill teams in the first half. "Our squad can win things. And I know that it will be difficult for Manchester United to win." "It was not easy against him but it was not that difficult either," he concluded.
Arsenal star Cesc Fabregas has revealed that he is negotiating a new contract extension at Emirates Stadium.
The Spaniard is under contract with The Gunners until June 2014 and the club want to make sure the former Barcelona trainee will remain in North London for the long term.
“I am under contract until 2014, six years are remaining and I am speaking to my club who are interested in extending it,” he told Cadena Ser.
“I want to succeed at Arsenal and the fact that the club want me is fundamental.”
"I think we want to play well in every competition whether it's the FA Cup, the Champions League or the League," Diaby told Arsenal TV Online. "We want to win all of them because we are a big club and we want to win trophies. This Saturday is very important to us.
"Maybe a win will give us a psychological advantage. We just want to give our best and win the game."
Unfortunately, Diaby will not get a chance to make his mark in the FA Cup this weekend. The 21-year-old suffered a calf injury against Manchester City at the start of February.
"I took a kick around the ankle against Manchester City and my calf felt very stiff," explained Diaby. "I won’t make the match against Manchester United, but I hope to be back as soon as I can."
"I had been waiting a long time to be called up so it was great to be there," the Frenchman told Arsenal's matchday programme. "We drew 0-0 and I thought I played well.
"It wasn’t the first team unfortunately so I need to work a bit harder to get my first full cap. My objective is to be at the European Championships in the summer and if I can be there without having played all the games beforehand then fantastic.
"The coach, Raymond Domenech watched both 'A’ and ‘B’ games. He said well done to me and I hope he will call upon me for the upcoming game against England and of course for Euro 2008."
Aspirations are rightly high for the 22-year-old, however his focus remains in North London.
Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti told reporters: "Gattuso is fine. "He has recovered very quickly thanks to the great dedication he has shown in his rehabilitation. "He is a peculiar player in that respect - he's a great professional." The holders, however, are sweating on the fitness of Kaka, Ronaldo and Alexandre Pato for the trip to the Premier League leaders. Source:skysports
"He's in fantastic form. It's great for him and great for the team," Hleb said.
"Now with important games such as Manchester United and AC Milan and others coming up, it's ideal to have a striker who is taking his chances whichever way they come and showing such all-round ability.
"Everything is coming off for him at the moment."

"No I don’t think so. If you want to win the Champions these are the opponents you have to play,” he told the Gazzetta dello Sport.
“We are young, impudent and in the past have knocked out Real Madrid and Juve. We like to attack, we will play without fear.”
Fabregas has no doubts that the success of this Arsenal team, who are currently top of the English Premiership, is down to manager Arsene Wenger.
“Much of the credit goes to Arsene Wenger,” said the Spaniard.
“No one in the world can discover talents like he can, make them grow, let them play, and bring out the best in them. He has superior intelligence, we trust him, but he also trusts us."

Arsène Wenger admitted before the Blackburn game that he was down to the "bare bones" thanks to injuries and international commitments. Manuel Almunia, Abou Diaby, Tomas Rosicky, Robin van Persie, Denilson and Johan Djourou were all sidelined for Arsenal’s 2-0 victory but Rosicky could return at the weekend.
"Kolo and Eboue came back today [Monday] so we hope to see them tomorrow to see if they're not injured," said Wenger at his post-match press conference.
"Rosicky, he looks better. Van Persie looks better, but he is still a few weeks away. But Rosicky maybe has a little chance for Saturday."

"Thierry to me is like a big brother,” said the 23-year-old in the tunnel less than an hour after the match. “He already sent a message to me after the game to congratulate me.
"He talked to me a lot during the summer when he was leaving, he calls me and we have a lot of chats. He believes in my strength and my quality so I just want to thank him a lot because he helped me out a lot.
"A lot of times he sends me messages saying that I may have scored 15 or 16 but I know you can score more if you concentrate in every game.
"That is what I'm trying to do. I'm trying to listen to the advice and at the moment it's working so I'm very happy. I think Thierry keeps in touch with a lot of people [here]."

Arsenal left back Gael Clichy has admitted he felt he would have to leave the club when Ashley Cole was keeping him out of ths side.
When I look back, I was nothing but now I'm Arsenal's first [choice] left back,"
"In a big way, I've progressed a lot. I was just playing for Cannes in the Third Division and never thought Arsenal would be there looking for me.
"There was really a bad time since I joined Arsenal when Ashley got injured and I wasn't happy, I would not say I was happy but I got a chance to play.
"Then, a week later, I got the same injury. Of course, it was in my mind to just think that the chance is gone. I'll have to work hard and move elsewhere to do something.
"At the end of the day, I'm here today and I'm really pleased with that.
"I can look back at the past and say all those things just made me stronger.
"When Ashley left, he [Arsene Wenger] didn't buy anyone and that is the best sign of confidence for me and was a big boost.
"I was injured for a few months and it was really nice to feel someone behind you so, when you come back, you just have to play a few games to get the consistency back and go again.
"You can do mistakes," he admitted after slipping up in the win at Manchester City. "Without trying to take risks, you can't be great.
"So it was a big mistake for me at City but I try to do my best and play good football like we do at Arsenal."
The Arsenal boss reflected: "They are all more mature now.
"Cesc is committed and you always like your players to have a winning attitude.
"Sometimes it can go a little bit over the top, but Cesc has behaved remarkably well this season - I cannot remember one incident.
"There was maybe a stage, for about six months, where he went a bit the wrong way - but he corrected that very well, without any special management from me.
"If I feel that the players aren't managing to do it themselves then I will help them to do it. But in his case, there was no need. He apologised and from then on there have been no problems with him.
"He is so intelligent that he realised that is not the way he wanted to go."

"There are talks with the club and I hope everything will work out because I am happy here," Flamini said in the Sunday Mirror. "I like English football and I love Arsenal." Flamini puts his improvement down to effort he has put in on the training ground. He said: "Hard work. I have done that for the three-and-a-half years have been at the club. "Now I have my place in the team and I am getting more and more confidence. "I am in central midfield and that means I am involved in everything. That suits my style." Source:Skysports
Mathieu Flamini has revealed that he is in negotiations regarding a new deal at Arsenal.
"I don't know," said Wenger. "Ivory Coast play on Saturday afternoon. I have not called him yet but I will try to see if he can take a flight from Accra to London. Otherwise it will be Gilberto, who is back, or Justin Hoyte at centre-half.
"(Tomas) Rosicky, (Robin) Van Persie and (Johan) Djourou are out. (Manuel) Almunia is a doubt. His thumb is okay but he is sick. We'll see tomorrow and Sunday about him.
"On top of that we don’t have (Emmanuel) Eboue and (Alexandre) Song. Also we lost (Abou) Diaby with a calf problem and we might have lost (Mathieu) Flamini with a hamstring. He had to move out from the French national team.
"Philippe Senderos came off injured in midweek with a medial knee ligament and is a major doubt. He has played with it before and we'll see on Monday. I don’t rule him out completely and he is positive about it. Our medical team are a bit less. He wants to test it out over the weekend.
"Diaby, in fairness, picked the injury up at Man City. We sent him on international duty with information explaining that he was injured and they did not play him.
Labels: arsenal, kolo toure, wenger
"It is inevitable in some way," he said at his pre-match press conference on Friday. "Why? Because communications is always quicker. Right now if I tell you Philippe Senderos is injured in the same minute a guy in China can read that as well. That was not the case 20 years ago. So football is already global through television or media.
"Where it is not global is in access to the competition. At the moment TV gives access to the best in the world. And that means there will be a pressure for the best playing against the best.
"So then the question you ask is can the best against the best only be in England? And I think that’s what the Premier League is trying to do. Not to lose the best domestically but to promote them abroad and keep the best in England. Will that last? I don’t know."

Arsene Wenger has hit out again at the timing of international friendlies after his key midfielder Mathieu Flamini went off with an ankle injury after just 17 minutes of France B's friendly against DR Congo on Tuesday.
"That is one (round of internationals) you could do without," the Arsenal boss told the Daily Star.
"I think if you did a poll of all the clubs involved in the Champions League I wouldn't be surprised if 100 per cent of them said let's get rid of it."
Flamini looks a doubt for Monday's Premier League clash against Blackburn, a game Wenger was desperate to play him in because of his physical presence in the centre of the park.

Milan are confident that both Kaka and Alexandre Pato will be fit to start their UEFA Champions League clash with Arsenal. Neither are expected to be risked in upcoming Serie A matches - but they should be available for the opening leg of the clash against Arsenal at the Emirates. Neither are expected to be risked in upcoming Serie A matches - but they should be available for the opening leg of the clash against Arsenal at the Emirates. "We are confident of his recovery time. We thought it would take two or three weeks, but now I think within a fortnight he can be recovered and ready for the match with Arsenal. "Kaka will certainly be available against Arsenal, but he won't be there with Siena," confirmed Meersseman. "This knee injury has been going on for almost two years and he always feels a little pain the day after a match. This is why we decided to take action so he can recover quicker in future." Switzerland captain Switzerland captain Philippe Senderos hopes to give Arsene Wenger a selection headache when team-mate Kolo Toure returns from the Africa Cup of Nations. Senderos intends to continue showing plenty of "fight" to retain his place at the heart of the Arsenal backline when Wenger has his full complement of defenders again. He said: "At Arsenal, we are having a good season and, for me personally, it is great to be getting a run in the team, and the results are coming as well. "Every time I come into a game, I always try to give my best and try to keep in the team. "Hopefully I will give good problems to the manager. I always try to fight for my place."

Alexander Hleb's agent insists the midfielder wants to stay at Arsenal amid reports of interest from Barcelona. Speculation in Spain has claimed that Barcelona have made the Belarus international one of their top summer transfer targets.
"But Alex loves life at Arsenal. He feels he is at the best club in the world.
"He has the ideal manager, he loves his team-mates and loves London. Why would he want to leave?"
Hleb has scored twice in 21 Premier League appearances this season, with the Gunners leading champions Manchester United by two points.

"Being here is an intense joy,” he told Sport 24. “I am happy to be here and will try to enjoy these days with the group to see how it feels from inside, hoping that my first cap won’t be the last one.
“I know a lot of players from Arsenal or when I played for France Under-21s. It has made my integration easier. I have a lot of things to discover: the trainings, the other players…
“It is a child’s dream that I am achieving. I know I wasn’t far from being called up and now I’m there. It means that we should never be desperate for it.
“There is no rivalry with Patrice Evra. We have a common objective and what is happening with our clubs is different.
“We will have the time to face each other in a week in the FA Cup (laughs).”

Milan are optimistic that Brazilian wonderkid Alexandre Pato will recover from an injury in time to make the trip to London to face Arsenal in the Champions League on February 20.
At just 18 years of age and with just six Serie A appearances under his belt, Pato is already a central figure for coach Carlo Ancelotti and has scored four goals in a prodigious start to his Milan career.
His first injury concern came on Sunday though as he picked up an ankle problem after scoring the only goal of the game in a 1-0 win over Fiorentina.
There had been fears that the problem could prevent him from appearing in the first leg of the last 16 clash at Emirates Stadium, but Rossoneri vice-president Adriano Galliani expects the exciting teenager to return.
"I have heard from the doctors. The hope is that we will have him for London," Galliani told reporters.
Players such as Ronaldo, Kaka, Clarence Seedorf and Filippo Inzaghi are all currently injured, but they should return along with midfield enforcer Gennaro Gattuso who is progressing well from a thigh injury.
"He has a muscle problem," Galliani added. “We need to speak to the doctors but we hope to have him available next week.”
