Hleb charged by FA

The Football Association has charged Arsenal star Alexander Hleb with violent conduct following an incident with Reading’s Graeme Murty at the weekend.

Having since watched video replays of the flashpoint, Walton has indicated he would have dismissed Hleb had he witnessed the midfielder’s actions.

If Hleb is now found guilty of the offence then his campaign will likely be over as Arsenal only have three league games remaining this season.

“Arsenal midfielder Alexander Hleb has been charged with violent conduct,” read an FA statement.

“Hleb was involved in an incident with Reading defender Graeme Murty during the second half of the match at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday 19 April.

“The incident was not seen by referee Peter Walton. Having now watched video footage of the incident, Walton has informed The FA that, had he seen it at the time, he would have shown Hleb a red card for violent conduct.

“Hleb has until 6pm on Wednesday 23 April to admit or deny the charge. A Regulatory Commission will hear the case on Thursday 24 April.”
