Italian giants keen on Adebayor

Arsenal's transfer rumour mill continues to turn. Emmanuel Adebayor, Arsene Wenger's luminescent striker, is the latest in a batch of first-team players to appear on the wish-lists of several leading Italian clubs.

According to Vincenzo Morabito, Adebayor's agent, Italian heavyweights Juventus and AC Milan are both making soundings on signing the 24-year-old Togo international, who signed for Arsenal in 2006 for £7m. "Milan have looked at him and so have Juventus," Morabito confirmed.

"He is a young player to sign and with respect to other attackers like Drogba, he has age on his side from the perspective of a longer career," he said.

Adebayor is being marketed by Morabito as a "striker who has had a great season and is the right investment for the future," and it is little surprise that the Arsenal forward should be in the transfer market cross-hairs: personally speaking he has had a fruitful season. He has scored 27 goals in 45 games in all competitions, his name is on the shortlist for the PFA Player of the Year award; Adebayor's stock has risen considerably.

AC Milan, in particular, were impressed after seeing him play close-up during their Champions League quarter-final. His failure to convert the easiest of opportunities, heading against the crossbar from a yard out during their first leg at the Emirates, seems to have done no lasting damage to his reputation in Italian eyes.
