Fabregas named PFA Young Player Of the Year

Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas has been named the PFA Young Player of the Year for the first time after being a shining light for The Gunners this season.

The Spaniard seems a relative veteran for the North London club as he is rapidly closing in on 200 appearances and at 20 years of age, Fabregas is one of The Premier League’s brightest talents.

He has beaten countryman Fernando Torres, Micah Richards, Gabriel Agbonlahor, Ashley Young and PFA Player of the Year Cristiano Ronaldo to the junior prize.

Fabregas is the top flight’s leading assist maker with 18 to his name, and has also added goals to his game this season by claiming 13 in all competitions.

"I'm very proud. It's a very prestigious trophy," said Fabregas. "Football is a collective game and you prefer to win trophies with team-mates but it's always nice to have this type of award."

In landing the prestigious award Fabregas becomes the first Arsenal player to be recognised since Nicolas Anelka who was named Young Player of the Year in 1999.
