Wenger not scared to spend big

Arsene Wenger insists he would not be afraid to bring in another big-money signing this summer despite high-profile failures in the past like Francis Jeffers.

Compared to the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool, Arsenal have rarely spent substantial sums on players during Wenger’s time at the club.

When asked if he was scared about spending big on a world superstar like Ronaldinho, he told the official Arsenal website: “Scared of what? I would not be scared. We couldn’t afford him now, so we have to forget it.

“But the money [we have paid out] is not comparable to what other big teams have spent on players.

“For example, with Reyes we got a big part back and for Jeffers a little part back. If I have the money and I am convinced it is worth it, we will do it.”
