Cesc Fabregas: England wants Liverpool to win

Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas has claimed that the "whole of England" wants Liverpool to win tonight's Champions League quarter-final at Anfield

"I detect something very significant and curious going on at the moment because every time Arsenal lose there are many, many people who are delighted," he said.

"I must say it's really strange. It's as if they specifically don't want good football to triumph. But we won't change. In the first leg it never even occurred to any of us to revert to the long ball game in an attempt to win.

"Football has become ever more about power and physicality but I think our philosophy is the one which makes our sport a real spectacle."

But the 20-year-old, however, insisted he was not implying a criticism of the opposition at Anfield tonight. "I don't mean that I've got a lack of respect for Liverpool, however. They defend well and that's fundamental in the Champions League.

"They've put themselves in a good position to go through but if we can carry the form of the second half from last week into this match then we'll have chances to win."
